Spring Baseball Coaching Responsibilites

T-Ball Baseball (Ages 4–6)

Primary Focus

Introduce players to the fundamentals of baseball while creating a fun, positive experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 1–2 practices per week.
  • Teach basic throwing, catching, hitting, and base running.
  • Ensure every player participates equally.
  • Maintain a safe and encouraging environment.
  • Communicate regularly with families.
  • Organize team snack schedules if desired.
  • Manage dugout behavior and sportsmanship.
  • Set up and put away equipment before and after games.
  • Promote teamwork, effort, and enjoyment over competition.

Rookies Baseball (Ages 6–7)

Primary Focus

Develop fundamental skills through coach-pitch play.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct practices focused on skill development.
  • Teach proper fielding and hitting mechanics.
  • Introduce game situations and baseball rules.
  • Ensure players receive opportunities at multiple positions.
  • Encourage sportsmanship and teamwork.
  • Communicate schedules and expectations to families.
  • Manage game lineups and defensive rotations.
  • Assist players in learning game awareness.

Farm Baseball (Ages 8–10)

Primary Focus

Transition players toward competitive baseball.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct organized practices emphasizing fundamentals.
  • Teach defensive positioning and situational baseball.
  • Develop pitching and catching skills.
  • Create balanced lineups while ensuring player development.
  • Teach proper baseball etiquette and sportsmanship.
  • Prepare players for advancement to higher divisions.
  • Ensure an umpire is provided for every "home" game.
  • Communicate with families regarding schedules and expectations.
  • Monitor player safety and playing time requirements.

AAA Baseball (Ages 9–11)

Primary Focus

Refine skills and introduce more advanced game concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Plan structured practices.
  • Develop pitchers and catchers safely.
  • Teach advanced base running and defensive strategies.
  • Manage game situations and substitutions.
  • Foster player confidence and accountability.
  • Track pitch counts and player eligibility.
  • Ensure an umpire is provided for every "home" game.
  • Maintain compliance with Little League rules.
  • Communicate regularly with players and families.

Majors Baseball (Ages 10–12)

Primary Focus

Prepare players for advanced competition and tournament play.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct highly organized practices.
  • Develop advanced baseball skills and situational awareness.
  • Manage pitching staff and pitch counts.
  • Ump for other Majors division games throughout the season.
  • Teach leadership and accountability.
  • Create competitive but development-focused game plans.
  • Prepare interested players for All-Star opportunities.
  • Promote sportsmanship and respect for umpires.
  • Ensure compliance with Little League rules and policies.

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball (Ages 11–13)

Primary Focus

Prepare players for larger field dimensions and advanced play.

Responsibilities

  • Teach leading, stealing, and advanced base running.
  • Develop strategic understanding of the game.
  • Manage player development and safety.
  • Prepare players for Juniors and higher levels.
  • Conduct structured practices focused on skill refinement.
  • Track pitching eligibility and player availability.

Juniors Baseball (Ages 13–14)

Primary Focus

Prepare players for high school baseball.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced baseball skills.
  • Teach game strategy and leadership.
  • Conduct efficient, player-led practices when appropriate.
  • Manage pitching workloads safely.
  • Promote accountability and self-discipline.
  • Encourage player ownership of preparation and effort.
  • Ensure an umpire is provided for every home game.
  • Maintain communication with players and families
 Seniors Baseball (Ages 13–16)

Primary Focus

Prepare players for high school baseball through advanced skill development, competition, and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct organized practices focused on advanced baseball skills.
  • Teach game strategy, situational awareness, and player accountability.
  • Develop pitching, catching, hitting, and defensive fundamentals at a higher level.
  • Promote leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Manage player development while maintaining a competitive environment.
  • Communicate schedules, expectations, and team information with players and families.
  • Encourage player responsibility and preparation.
  • Prepare players for high school and higher levels of baseball.

Spring Softball Coaching Responsibilities

Rookies Softball (Ages 6–8)

Primary Focus

Introduce players to the fundamentals of softball while creating a fun, positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct practices focused on fundamental skill development.
  • Teach throwing, catching, hitting, fielding, and base running.
  • Introduce basic softball rules and game situations.

  • Conduct organized practices and games.

Minors Softball (Ages 9–10)

Responsibilities

  • Develop hitting, fielding, and pitching fundamentals.
  • Teach situational softball concepts.
  • Promote teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Manage practices and game lineups.
  • Encourage player development over winning.

Majors Softball (Ages 10–12)

Juniors Softball (Ages 12–14)

Fall Ball Coaching Responsibilities

All Baseball and Softball Divisions

Primary Focus

Instruction, development, and preparing players for the next division level.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize teaching over winning.
  • Ensure players experience multiple positions.
  • Provide equal developmental opportunities.
  • Introduce skills players will need next spring.
  • Create a positive and low-pressure learning environment.
  • Focus on fundamentals and game awareness.
  • Encourage player confidence and growth.
  • Communicate schedules and expectations with families.
  • Promote good sportsmanship and respect.
  • Help new players learn the game.
  • Work collaboratively with opposing coaches to maximize teaching opportunities.
  • Keep practices engaging and instructional.
  • Emphasize player development rather than standings or tournament results.

Division-Specific Fall Focus 

Farm Baseball / 89ers Softball

  • Prepare players for player-pitch divisions.

AAA Baseball / Minors Softball

  • Develop stronger game awareness and advanced fundamentals.

Majors Baseball & Softball

  • Prepare players for Intermediate, Juniors, or higher levels.

Intermediate & Juniors Baseball / Juniors Softball

  • Focus on advanced skills, leadership, and preparation for school ball programs.

Administrative Responsibilities (Spring & Fall)

All coaches are expected to:

  • Complete required volunteer registration and background checks.
  • Complete Little League required safety training.
  • Attend coach meetings and trainings.
  • Provide an umpire for all home games during the fall season.
  • Maintain player safety at all times.
  • Report injuries according to league procedures.
  • Represent Lake Stevens Little League positively within the community.
  • Follow all Little League International and LSLL policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all players are treated fairly and respectfully.
