Rookies Baseball

This level of play fosters continued skills development and a better understanding of the rules and nuances of the game. The focus remains on the fun of playing the sport while more coaching attention is given to fielding, making plays, accurate throwing, and proper hitting techniques. Players will experience a combination of coach-pitched balls and the use of a batting tee. The goal at seasons' end is to prepare the players for their first season of Farm Baseball or Rookies Softball.

Schedule

2 events per week (1-1.5 hours each), including potential Saturdays. All games and practices will be located in Lake Stevens.

This Division Program is ideal for players who:

  • Have completed at least one year of Tee Ball
  • Designed for both future baseball and softball players
  • Show skill progression in throwing, catching & holding a defensive position (avoidance of dog-piling and collective ball chasing)
  • Has demonstrated ability or desire to hit at a thrown ball
  • Your player is not yet ready for a competitive program but is looking for more structure
  • Increased degree of focus and attention, to ensure a safe environment

What a player and family should expect:

  • More emphasis on defensive skills: force outs and tagging runners, creating building blocks of what to do when the ball is in play
  • A fun and safe environment that prompts sportsmanship, teamwork, listening and attention
  • Hitting techniques and at-bat approach
  • Improved skill development in throwing, catching, and fielding balls in play
  • Game rules are embraced and explained in an age-appropriate manner
  • Base running techniques are taught: running through first base, staying on your base, tagging up on a fly ball

Parents and coaches are strongly encouraged to participate in the facilitation of practices and games that promote a safe, instructive and fun environment.
